I'm wondering if anybody might possibly figure out exactly what the midterm elections may possibly mean regarding free college scholarships. It appears to be the Republicans will certainly look to slash every thing they can cut and that in all probability means scholarships for college education. I don’t comprehend how these people believe this nation is ever going to remain competitive, if the actual cost of higher education continues to climb, although grants become tougher to acquire. It is scary to think I'll be in debt $40,000 or higher and not knowing when I may possibly have a job after I graduate in this tight economy.

The first thing the political arena should focus on is unemployment. With the rising number of people loosing their jobs, homes and family, the crime rate will skyrocket within the next year. Many people are exhausting all of the money available to them, including their 401K plans, to try to maintain their normal day to day living conditions. Where's the help for the people who cannot afford healthcare and other necessaries for living? This is not only a blue collar problem, its a white collar problem, it's not a democratic problem, but a republican problem, as well. This issue should be addressed now. So, why aren't we researching, brainstorming, and conducting meetings everywhere, trying to come up with a solution to this problem? Is it because we as humans just don't care about each other anymore?

Second, education. The smaller countries are becoming stronger than this country because they are investing in their future - the children. It's ashame that our children cannot do simple math because we don't have enough qualified teachers to teach them. We are behind other countries in both Math and Science. These are the two most important subjects we should be concerned about. My grandson is friends with a young man that just moved here from Japan, he said the kids go to school there daily and their focus is strictly on studying Math and Science...and we ask ourselves "why are the Japanese so smart?" They are smart because they are doing something we are not....educating their children. We are too busy worrying about how to keep the poor poorer and rich richer. We have to refocus on what is best for our country - the proper education for all children..that's our future.
