Why Carol A. Gordon?

Carol A. Gordon, a long-time resident of Massapequa, NY, is announcing her candidacy for NYS Senate, 8thDistrict. Carol is a dedicated individual with a commitment to the community. She has dedicated over 30 years to community and volunteer services, including reaching out to those in need of support and encouragement, both personally and professionally.

Carol’s journey began with her positions as Mental Health Clinic Manager and Patient Advocate at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she served our veterans for 25 years. In this role, Carol developed a strong commitment to the American Veterans and initiated many sustainable support programs, including championing an effort to have the first women veterans admitted to an all male unit. She was active on the Ethics, Family Council, and various veterans committees. She also served as manager of the Federal Women’s Program for 22 Years, the Women’s Veterans Advisory Chairperson, and was a facilitator in the Women League of Voters, Seminars for Health, and and a series of self- esteem/ personal development seminar. Under her leadership, a Mentoring Program and a Toastmaster Club were started. She was a founding member and served on the board of the Wee Luv Em Day Care.

Carol is the Vice President of the Breezy Point Civic Association, a member of Save the Jones Beach committee, on the Board of Directors of North Amityville Community Economic Council (NACEC), a member of North Amityville Old School Association, 3rd Vice President of N.A.A.C.P. Central Long Island Chapter. In 2008, Carol became a member of the National Organization of Women and the Chairperson of the mentoring and education committee for Urban Financial Services Coalition of Long Island, an organization that promotes financial literacy. She also served as Co-recreational Director at the United North Amityville Youth Organization (UNAYO), and is always helping with other organizations and committees in the area. Carol has even opened her home to many organizations, including the Youth Center, Mercy First, Red Hats and the Greater Sisters of Long Island for fundraising and networking events.

Carol believes in “Empowerment through Education and Information”, and is dedicated to providing knowledge and possible solutions to Long Island residents in matters such as the economy, property taxes, the outsourcing of jobs and resources, eco- friendly development, and violence in homes, schools, and on our streets. Her candidacy is endorsed by the NYS Democratic Party and the Working Families Party.

On July 19, 2008, Carol held a small Meet and Greet for close friends and community members as a way of saying thank you to those who have shown inital enthusiam and support so early her candidacy. She looks forward to hosting more Meet and Greet events as well as walking through the 8th disrtict to meet constiuents and discuss issues that face the voters.
